The Vibraslap is traditionally made from an animal's skull, where one would hold the jawbone and slap the skull, rattling the teeth in their sockets. In 1967, inspired by the great Latin percussionist Cal Tjader, Martin Cohen invented a wooden version that could be produced commercially and sold far and wide.

Me and my friends found one in my dad's box of percussion instruments and had an absolute blast with it one evening, jamming on the drums, vibraphone, cowbell, wooden fish (!) and so on. This is how I wish we sounded.
